FA Cup – The Emirates Football Association Challenge Cup

The 2016 – 17 FA Cup is currently going on and all the football lovers seem really excited about it. The FA Cup is known as The Football Association Challenge Cup. It was first played in the 18th century, so known as the oldest football competition in the world. The tournament consists of 12 rounds, including Semi finals and finals. A team with higher rank enters in the later rounds.

A team needs to win minimum of Six to fourteen games to win the competition. The FA Cup is an annual football competition. From the year 2015 to 2018, it was known as The Emirates FA Cup due to some sponsorship reasons. The winner of this game receives the FA Cup Trophy. The Winners of FA Cup also qualify for the European football; they also get placed in the FA Community Shield match. The current winter team of the year 2016 is “Manchester United”. This team has become the winner of this Cup for the 12th time.  This is a great inspiration for all the football lovers.

History of FA Cup

It was started in 18th century.

In 1863 – Publication of laws for game by a new founded football association. Proper rules and regulation regarding this game were published in this year.

In the season of 1888 – 89 – Qualifying rounds were introduced and Modern Cup was started to establish in this season.

In 1914-15 – It was the time of the First World War so the competition was suspended for almost 5 years.

1922-1923 – In the new Wembley Stadium, The first final of this game was played. Ricky Villa was the greatest goal scorer at Wembley Stadium.

In 2000 – The semi finals and the finals were introduced from 2000 onwards. Up to 2006, the finals were being played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. In the famous Wembley Stadium, the final matches have been started from 2007 and Semi finals from 2008. Winners receive the FA Cup trophy. 2005-06 – F.C united of nation club was formed in this season.

The 2016–17 FA Cup

The 2016–17 FA Cup is currently going on. This is the 136th FA Cup tournament in the world. This tournament is also known as a challenge cup tournament. This is also known as the Emirates FA Cup because it is sponsored by Emirates.  Football association challenge cup 2016-17 is currently being performed in England. Manchester United and Crystal Palace will play in the 2016 FA Cup final.

Starting Date – It was started from the 5th of August 2016

Ending Date – It will be concluded with the final on the 27th of May 2017

736 teams have been accepted into this tournament. The winner of this tournament will qualify for the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League group stage.
